St George's School

Howl Associates were appointed by Worcestershire County Council to design the new St Georges Primary School in Kidderminster.

The Rooflight Company’s Plateau Rooflights were selected to create a distinctive top lit arrival space that provides a clear orientating element that links the hall with other teaching spaces.

Five runs of Bespoke Plateau Rooflights were specified by the architect, with each run of rooflights being made up of four casements on two baseplates. To reduce the gaps between the casements, the Rooflight Company’s Type A linking system was used. This system offers the smallest gap available for the internal view, giving clearer lines of sight and maximising incoming light.

The success of the overall design was recognised, with Howl Associates receiving an RIBA West Midlands Architecture Award for this project in 2013.
