When designing this new build family home in Long Crendon, architect Kieran Hawkins of MailenDesign had to ensure the house would meet local planning restrictions on size and materials, whilst also embracing the client’s desire of a light and contemporary interior, with outstanding environmental performance.
Despite unusually tight parameters for town planning, timescale and budget the clients were always very clear they wanted a unique and delightful family home; one which is open, full of light and crisply built, but which also feels robust and in keeping with a rural English setting.
Kieran specified six neo™ roof windows as they could be installed flush with the roof line whilst also matching the aspiration for crisp interior detailing. Each of the neo™ roof windows are operated by a discreet manual handle and those in bedrooms are fitted with blinds.
The resulting building is a family home which has the clarity and strength of an agricultural building while providing an uplifting backdrop to daily life for this particular family.
