Creating a smart home of the future

Most people will know Ben Hillman from his various TV appearances on programs such as A Place in the Sun and his interior design work. Ben is also a DIY expert and is currently renovating his family home, a 1934 house. As part of a wider vision to create a ‘smart home of the future’, he is working on an extension and any homeowner undergoing a renovation project will enjoy following his progress via Instagram.

From secret doors leading from the kitchen to the garage and utility to voice activated lights, this is certainly a project with personality. Ben posts videos of him excitedly walking through a door with concealed cabinet hinges back-to-front to cleverly create a secret door effect. Not only is the extension beautifully lit by carefully planned lighting, they can also all be controlled from a smart home hub, the latest must-have gadget for any modern homeowner.

Ben’s definitely not shy of a DIY project and will casually whip-up a set of floating shelves for his daughter’s playroom of an evening, and this time-laspe video certainly makes it look easy!

Everyone loves a demolition time-laspe video too. Ben has included this on his Instagram account showing his team of builders seamlessly removing a roof and knocking down walls within seconds.

Ben’s home renovation project also includes our neo™ Plateau Rooflights, helping to complete the composition of the aga log burner, beautifully crowned by the sky above through the flush lining to glass finish. Ben wanted to be able to let plenty of natural daylight flood the room from above and we think it looks fantastic.
