Concrete expression

I’ve seen this fabulous house, the home of the architect Ricardo Bofill, before. But apparently it is a continual work in progress, and has recently hit the media again.

I’ve seen this fabulous house, the home of the architect Ricardo Bofill, before.

But apparently it is a continual work in progress, and has recently hit the media again. Bofill’s own architecture is, ahem, an acquired taste but this – this is just totally loveable. From the outside it looks a little like one of those Indiana Jones style over-run ruins, although its original function becomes immediately apparent, and even more so in the interior photo shown here. Look at those cement silos.

Who would have thought of living in an old cement works? Well, Bofill would. Old power stations – pah? Turning a church into a home? Small beer. This is the real thing, probably the best repurposing ever.

He has apparently been working on it for 40 years – and all that makes me think is that it was totally worth it.
