Wood Room, London

After attending the Bespoke Rooflights CPD and being particularly impressed with neo™, Rob McGinnes of Hive Architects, designed this new extension for his own home in Knutsford.  The aim of the extension was to celebrate and innovate with timber, texture and light.

From concept stage, Rob had a clear view on how he wanted the extension to look. Working closely with the Rooflight Company's in-house design team, Rob finalised the details for the Rooflight Company's first installation of a neo™ into a timber board clad roof.

Both neo™ roof windows have been orientated south for two reasons; to increase solar gains and light levels.

"When designing this extension I chose the neo™ S15's as they were closest in size to the concept upstand size. I supplied sketch details to the Rooflight Company's Design Team, who reviewed them and provided advice. We discussed materials in the build to ensure avoidance of cross contamination issues and also the installation details at length. The Design Team really bought into my design and went the extra mile to ensure this project was a success."

Since completion, Wood Room has been awarded with the Manchester Architect Awards Best Small Project 2015. Wood Room is also shortlisted for the Structural Timber Awards Architect of the Year and Private Housing Project of the Year.
