Research commissioned by the Association for the Institute of Energy and Sustainable Development at De Montfort University concludes that adequate daylight can be provided through rooflights without creating the risk of solar overheating.

Normally associated with dramatic museums and galleries, Zaha Hadid’s cancer-care centre is her first completed UK commission. A complex folding, unfolding and refolding of glass, steel and concrete, augmented with the use of natural light through specially designed triangular rooflights.

The Maggie Centre in Fife is the second project that the Rooflight Company has been involved with, the first being the Maggie Centre in Glasgow designed by Paige and Park. To read more about both projects click on the links below.

The introduction of natural light with all its variety has always been recognised by architects as having positive advantages. There is also a growing body of evidence to suggest that buildings enjoying high levels of natural light are literally more successful than those more reliant on artificial light.
