Building schools for the future
'Building Schools for the Future' has had an impact on the type and range of projects undertaken by the Rooflight Company over the past few years. Capital investment in secondary schools has also prompted refurbishments and many new build schemes across the entire Education sector.
Rooflights have influenced classroom design – The Rooflight Company have been heavily involved in many projects.
Pyramids create a rainbow effect

Natural light from the Pyramid Rooflights enhances the contemporary setting whilst also aiding energy efficiency and student performance.
'Rainbow Street', a large, brightly coloured multi-purpose extension to Lansdowne primary school in Tilbury has been brought to life by incorporating attention-grabbing design features including curved walls, skylights, glass bricks and white Pyramid rooflights from the Rooflight Company.
Blending the old and the new

Bridging the gap between historical and contemporary architecture, this facility at the Royal College of Surgeons in Edinburgh benefits from natural light provided by both modern and period-style rooflights installed in the stainless steel roof. Five Conservation Rooflights® and ten Special Plateau rooflights were installed by the main contractor Henry Boot to allow daylight to flood down into the large, wooden floored main hall below.
Flexibile solutions for special requirements

Willow School, a new school specially designed by Rotherham Construction Partnership to cater for children with behavioural problems, provides a safe and homely environment. The design spec outlined the use of natural materials and ventilation as far as possible so rooflights, timber windows and doors were specified. The orientation of the school was also designed to make full benefit of solar shading to the classrooms.
When looks matter

Appearance was a key issue on the project, Prospect College in Reading, where 16 Plateau rooflights painted white were installed on an aluminium standing seam roof. With other college buildings overlooking the roof, the architect wanted to ensure that the new roof was aesthetically pleasing.
