Case Study
Beard Mill, Oxfordshire
Architects: Berman Guedes Stretton Architects
Product: the Conservation Rooflight
Beard Mill is a restored watermill consisting of living and entertaining spaces with river views and separate accommodation for the neo-natal scanning clinic, and was the joint winner in the Live-Work category of RIBA's Ibstock Downland awards. One of the key elements to the successful transformation of the mill was the introduction of natural light through the installation of 7 Conservation Rooflights®.
Jon du Cruz, of Berman Guedes Stretton says: "We selected Conservation Rooflights because they sit very low to the roof surface, allowing the face of the roof to appear as a flush plane. The minimal frames are also in keeping with traditional single glazed metal rooflights.
"The rooflights sit very comfortably in the finished building and fit in particularly well with the reclaimed stonesfield slates. The Conservation Rooflights were particularly suited to this listed building project as they satisfied the need for a traditional appearance externally, whilst also allowing for modern, simple, clean lines on the interior."
